About Me

Hey there! My name is Molly and I live in New York City.

I want to give a bit of background about myself and how I got to where I am today. About 8 years ago I was playing Division 1 college volleyball when I was in a very serious car accident. I fractured my neck, along with some pretty other painful injuries including scars on my right arm. Just to put into perspective how serious it was, I fractured my neck where Christopher Reeves (Superman 1978) did. He became quadriplegic due to his neck fracture. Thankfully, I survived. Not only can I walk, but I also was able to recover and continue playing volleyball.

Physically it was hard but not as tough as it was mentally and emotionally. When I was able to play volleyball again, I wasn't the same player. I couldn't build up my strength which resulted in a lack of confidence in my athletic abilities. My new low self-esteem spread into other areas of my life, leading me to feel anxious and at times isolated. It felt like my world had turned upside down.

Since I didn't believe in myself, I slowly started to give up. I went from a starter to a bench player in the remainder of my collegiate career. I felt like I had lost a part of my identity and isolated because I didn't have the support I needed. I had support from family and teammates, but I needed a different kind of support; someone that could speak on their past experiences to guide, motivate and give me hope.

I truly believe if I had this support, the end of my college career and the years to follow wouldn't have been so difficult. I wish I had used the opportunity to explore what could've been for me as a player, teammate, student and friend. Unfortunately, I wasn't in the right mindset to do so.

This experience has completely changed my career trajectory. I'm passionate about helping others which is why I'm pursuing a Masters of Social Work from Fordham University. My ultimate goal is to want provide the support I needed and was unavailable to me at the time of my injury.
